Cuba: Today & After the Castros, Nov. 9

Latin American Studies presents “Cuba: Today & After the Castros” on Thursday, Nov. 9, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Baker 231.

Light refreshments will be served.

The panelists are Dr. Anita Waters  and Dr. Arturo Matute, both of Denison University, and Dr. Winsome Chunnu-Brayda, Associate Director of Ohio University’s Multicultural Center.

Abstract: What will life be for Cubans after the Castros? Will a replacement of the “historical generation” that overthrew Fulgencio Batista in 1959 mark a changing of the guard? How will that affect relations with the United States? In the context of a declining economy dependent on subsidized oil shipments from Venezuela, what are the prospects for further liberalization of economic restrictions? This panel will discuss Cuba’s current socioeconomic conditions and prospects for its future.
