Economics major Ayomide Awojinrin spent the summer of 2016 working in Los Angeles as an intern for BET Networks, a subsidiary of Viacom Inc.

BET Networks, a subsidiary of Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), is the nation’s leading provider of quality entertainment, music, news and public affairs television programming for the African-American audience. The primary BET channel reaches more than 90 million households.

“I worked in the Santa Monica office in LA and was able to gain many hands-on experiences working in the industry as an original programming intern. The program ran for 10 weeks (June 6 through Aug. 12), and I worked 32 hours a week, Monday through Thursday,” Awojinrin said.

“In some of my roles, I conducted over 50 focus groups and 30 surveys to provide qualitative and quantitative support in order to develop an understanding of BET Network’s target audience,” Awojinrin added.

His work also included analyzing and reviewing Nielsen’s Social Data in relation to BET Network TV shows to identify areas for growth and improvement.

“I developed a social media plan for the BET Experience 2016 on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter and generated an amount of over 1,500+ followers on each social media handle. I was able to learn the ins and outs of the industry, gain many marketing/analytical skills, and was able to get my feet in the door for real world work.”
