The College of Arts & Sciences Awards Committee selected Dr. Miriam Shadis, Associate Professor of History at Ohio University, as the recipient of the 2015-16 Outstanding Faculty Undergraduate Advising Award.

The award recognizes “exceptional availability” and “commitment to undergraduate student success.” Shadis was initially nominated as part of a college-wide open call by the A&S Awards Committee, after which only one faculty member from the College of Arts and Sciences was selected for the award.

This advising award comes in the wake of Shadis securing two prestigious research grants: a Baker Fund Award from the Ohio University Office of the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity and a Fulbright Fellowship from the US Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Both grants will facilitate archival research in Portugal for her book project, “Mothers, Daughters, Sisters, Saints: Gender and State Formation in Early Portugal (1100-1250).”
