Register Now for Diversity Matters: Preparing and Planning for Your Future in Law School, Feb. 26

Capital University Law School and The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law host their annual Diversity Matters Program: Preparing and Planning for Your Future Success in Law School on Feb. 26.

The event, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., largely aims to increase members’ from racially and ethnically diverse background understanding of the legal profession and expose them to career opportunities. Additionally, the program offers insights into the requirements for admission to law school and entrance into the legal profession.

“The target group for this event are students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and students of color,” says Jimmi Nicholson, Assistant Director for Admissions/Diversity and Inclusion at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. “However, all are welcome to attend the event. The reason the target group is such is because only one in 25 attorneys in this country are of color. That’s a very small population,” Nicholson said. “Most students of color and those from lower-socioeconomic backgrounds are the least-exposed to legal careers, and those who are from inner cities may only see it via the criminal justice system. Our goal is to expose them to other legal career paths and that one can do anything with a legal degree.”

The program is part of a larger directive LSAC and DiscoverLaw.org. The conference is a good opportunity for prospective students to learn what lawyers do,what makes a good law school applicant, and more.
