If you aren’t already in the know, academic advisers can be an invaluable resource on campus. However, our advice is only helpful if students are also willing to put in work.

This starts with preparing for your advising appointment. Before you meet with your adviser to talk strategy for the spring semester, be sure to give it some thought. Refresh your DARS and see what requirements you have left. Choose a few classes you might like to take and add them to your shopping cart. Prepare questions to ask during your advising appointment.

And lastly, think about what you might be doing in the summer so you can have a conversation about employment, internships or catching up on classes. All of these things will help you to have a better conversation with your adviser and leave you feeling much more excited about the next semester.
