The Contemporary History Institute Fall Speaker Series opens with a talk,  a book signing, and a reception with Ohio University’s own Dr. Alonzo Hamby, Distinguished Professor of History Emeritus, as he unveils his newest book, “Man of Destiny: FDR and the American Century” on Thursday, Sept. 24, at Baker Center 242 at 4:30 p.m.

Hamby-Man OfNo president looms larger in 20th century American history than Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and few life stories can match his for sheer drama. He was elected to office in 1932 by a nation that was mired in the Great Depression and desperate for revival, but FDR’s record as president was more mixed than we are often led to believe. Hamby’s book explores the New Deal, World War II, FDR’s plans for the postwar world, and his private life.
