The Biological Sciences Department announces that the long-awaited demolition of Irvine and Ryors annexes was completed over the summer.

Although the buildings had been heavily used for anatomy and physiology instruction since they were built in the 1990s, few tears were shed at their demise.

“The department is really excited about our new anatomy teaching laboratory in Central Classroom. It is going to be a terrific facility for our students and staff!” said Dr. Matthew White, Professor and Chair of Biological Sciences.

The new lab in the Central Classroom building is about 2,700 square feet. The maximum occupancy for the lab is 48 people. The total project cost about $700,000.

The lab includes a new air-handling unit designed with 12 air changes per hour using 100 percent outside air. It includes two work rooms, lab sinks, eye wash station, casework, and a necropsy table with independent exhaust.
