Chemistry Students Demo Crime Scene Techniques at Discovery Museum, April 18

Members of Ohio University’s Professional Chemistry Fraternity, Alpha Chi Sigma, will entertain community children with hands-on demonstrations of crime scene techniques at the Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery’s Forensic Chemistry Day on Saturday, April 18.

The museum’s Hunt for Treasure exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Forensic Chemistry “Hunt for Evidence” demonstrations take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The students will demonstrate various methods of fingerprinting, including 3D; enhancing prints (using balloons); 3D and 2D shoe impression matching; restoring serial numbers, and thin layer chromatography.

The Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery is a non-profit, volunteer-driven community organization with a commitment to creating unique educational and recreational experiences for children and their families in Southeastern Ohio. The museum is located in donated space in the Market on State on E. State St. The admission fee is $2 per person over 2 years of age, with a maximum of $7 per family.
