Summer Courses | CLJC Offers ‘Summer of Law’

The Center for Law, Justice & Culture announces Summer of Law 2015.

Summer of Law includes a series of linked law-related classes and activities for undergraduate students on the Athens campus during second summer session.

The program is ideal for students in the Making and Breaking the Law theme and the Law, Justice & Culture Certificate who wish to explore law and justice in more depth in July and August.

The following two Making and Breaking the Law theme courses are offered together from July 15 to Aug. 15.law center logo

POLS 2200: The Politics of Law

Dr. Judith Grant | Second session 7/27 through 8/15 | MTWTh 10 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.
This course introduces the study of law as a political process with special emphasis on courts, legal ideologies, violence, and the mobilization of rights claims in social and political conflict. It counts toward the Political Science major as well as the the Making and Breaking the Law theme and the Law, Justice & Culture Certificate.

ANTH 3530/5530: Anthropology of Violence and Peace

Dr. Haley Duschinski | Second session 7/27 through 8/15 | MTWTh 2 to 4:40 p.m.
This course focuses on the cultural dimensions of civil wars, ethnic and religious conflicts, communal violence, and state violence, as well as movements for human rights and peace. It counts toward the Anthropology major; the War and Peace theme, major, certificate; and the the Making and Breaking the Law theme and the Law, Justice & Culture Certificate. It prepares students for the Spring Break Study Abroad course on Human Rights, Law & Justice in Northern Ireland, to be offered in 2016.

Courses can be taken individually or together. Students will benefit from small class sizes, seminar discussions, and increased interaction with other theme students, faculty, and alumni.
