The Physics & Astronomy Colloquium Series presents Mark Lucas of Ohio University on “Engaging Students in Introductory Physics Classes at Ohio University” on Friday, Nov. 14, at 4:10 p.m. in Walter 245.

Abstract: As physics educators a significant part of our work involves teaching students who are not destined to become physicists. Our own preparation is often focused purely on our training as physicists with little or no attention to our future potential role as educators. I know this was true for myself. On the other hand, for many years physicists-‐turned-‐educators have been applying their analytical skills in a field that has grown to be known as Physics Education Research (PER). I will provide an overview of physics education research and discuss how some of that work has influenced the teaching of introductory physics classes at Ohio University.
