The Mathematical Biology Seminar presents Dr. Winfried Just on “Periodic outbreaks in models of disease transmission with a behavioral response” on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 5 to 5:45p.m. at Morton 219.
Just is Professor of Mathematics at Ohio University.
Abstract: In recent years there has been increasing interest in the effects of behavioral responses to information on outbreaks of infectious diseases. Previous research had shown that if the infection does not confer immunity upon recovery and the strength of the response wanes over time, prevalence of the infection may be driven to low endemic levels. In this talk, the speaker will report on recent joint results with Joan Saldana on the question whether a waning behavioral response provides sufficient protection against subsequent flare-ups of the infection. Some implications for public health policy and open questions for future research will also be covered.
