Halberstam’s presentation explores notions of compliance and how people must unlearn what they have learned in discourses of improvement, recovery and health.

“We are honored to be hosting Jack Halberstam, and we are very excited to launch the LGBTQ Studies certificate,” says Dr. Julie White, Director of the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program.

Halberstam is Professor of American Studies and Ethnicity, Gender Studies, Comparative Literature, and English at the University of Southern California.

This event is free and open to the campus community.

The inauguration of the certificate is hosted by Ohio University’s WGSS program, the LGBT Center, and the Women’s Center.

A reception precedes the inauguration from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. in the 1804 Lounge.

Courses for the new certificate will be offered in the spring 2015 semester.
