A&S Majors Are Pathways in new Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine EAP

The Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine has launched a new program that allows outstanding high school seniors to apply for medical school admission prior to starting their undergraduate coursework at Ohio University.

Highly talented high school students from the state of Ohio can apply for the Early Assurance Program with the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. Outstanding students admitted to the program complete an undergraduate degree and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at Ohio University in as few as seven years. Both a  3+4 seven-year option and a 4+4 eight-year pathway are available.

The program begins with students enrolling at OHIO for the fall of 2014.

One aim of the program is to Increase the potential number of future primary care physicians practicing in Ohio. Healthcare experts predict a national shortage of more than 45,000 primary care physicians within the next decade. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has identified more than 63 percent of Ohio’s 88 counties – including many underserved rural and inner-city communities – as Health Professional Shortage Areas.
