Sociology Alum to Head West Virginia Association for Justice

Bernie Layne ’94MA, who earned a master’s in Sociology from Ohio University, has been named President of the West Virginia Association for Justice. An AP story on the Seattle Post Intelligencer site reports, the Charleston attorney will head the plaintiffs’ group.

The organization announced Bernie Layne’s election Friday. Layne is a partner with the Charleston firm of Mani, Ellis and Layne.

Layne received his undergraduate degree from the University of Charleston, where he now serves on the Board of Governors. He received a master’s in sociology from Ohio University and graduated from the University of Dayton College of Law in 1999.

The West Virginia Association for Justice is an organization of about 500 plaintiffs’ attorneys. Layne has served on the organization’s governing board for more than a decade.
