Throughout the year the members of Ohio University’s chapter of Sigma Gamma Epsilon worked to fund raise and organize a 12-day field trip to the American southwest, culminating with a day hiking in the Grand Canyon.

Sigma Gamma Epsilon is for all geology and earth science majors and graduates who are interested in networking and professionalism.

Although Grand Canyon was the focus, many attendees found the other destinations to be just as impressive. The destinations included:

  • Palo Duro, TX
  • Petrified Forest, AZ
  • Meteor Crater, AZ
  • Flagstaff, AZ
  • Sedona, AZ
  • Sunset Crater Volcano, AZ
  • Grand Canyon, AZ
  • Zion National Park, UT
  • Arches National Park, UT
  • Moab, UT
  • Red Rocks, CO.

At each site, students gave educational presentations on the geology and history of the park. Students also cooked, cleaned, and camped throughout the trip. The group worked well together and bonded throughout the trip.

On behalf of the members of 2013 Sigma Gamma Epsilon, a special thanks goes out to the Alumni Board, Dr. Gregory Nadon, Dr. Douglas Green, and Dr. Keith Milam. Without their support, this amazing experience would have never happened.

To be a member of SGE at Ohio University, you must have a minimum 2.67 overall GPA with a minimum 3.0 major GPA and have completed at least 10 semester credit hours of earth sciences course work.
