Words of Welcome

Welcome to Engage, the alumni newsletter of the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University. I am very excited to launch Engage as part of a new college outreach initiative designed to promote stronger ties to our alumni.

The alumni outreach initiative has two goals.

  • First, there is no question that alumni can contribute to the success of our current students by providing (for example) access to internships, networking and career advice. Bobcats have a long history of helping Bobcats, and we want to strengthen those ties.
  • Second, I believe that the college can contribute to the success of our alumni by offering programs that support their on-going career development and life satisfaction.

We need to communicate more effectively with alumni to understand their needs, promote awareness of opportunities and respond effectively to feedback. This newsletter is designed to facilitate the sort of two-way communication we need with our alumni and friends.

Other elements of our alumni outreach initiative include the creation of a director of external relations position within the college, as well as an internship and career adviser position. I encourage you to reach out to Lisa and Kacey to express your interests and ideas.

Lisa S. Cohen, Director of External Relations

Lisa Cohen serves as the new Director of External Relations for the College of Arts & Sciences. In her role, Lisa is committed to engaging alumni, community and external partners in ways that add value to them, as well as the College of Arts & Sciences. Engaging alumni in academic programming as experts, mentors and learners is critical to enhancing interactions with faculty and students.

Her priorities include:

  • Increasing alumni involvement in department-level events
  • The launch of a first-ever Arts & Sciences Career and Networking week
  • Community engagement
  • Development of a college-wide, on-campus event

Efforts to increase external engagement will focus on expanding internship opportunities for students and increasing meaningful ways for alumni to connect with students at the college and department levels. In her role, Lisa also works with key external stakeholders including community partners, Southeastern Ohio nonprofits, and organizations committed to partnering with the college in its mission of teaching, research and service.

As Arts & Sciences alumni, you are invited to share what is meaningful to you in your lives, careers and communities, how you might ENGAGE at OHIO, and what we can do to support you as a lifelong learner. Your interest and insights will have a direct impact on our efforts going forward.
