Rota to Read from ‘Origins and Destinations – A Bilingual Book of Poems,’ Nov. 6

The Contemporary History Institute is pleased to welcome Dr. Josep Rota on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 4:30 pm in Baker 242 for a reading from his latest work, “Origins and Destinations—A Bilingual Book of Poems.”

Origins and DestinationsRota is Professor Emeritus of Communication and Associate Provost Emeritus for International Studies at Ohio University.  In his time here, he has also been the Director of the Center for International Studies and Professor of Communication as well as founder and first director of the Communication and Development Studies Program and director of Latin American Studies. He is the director of C-LEAD, the Center for Leadership and Development, in Athens and Mexico City.

Rota is the founding Vice President, past Chairman of the Board, and member of the Governing Board of American International Recruitment Council in Washington, D.C. He is former Chair of the Ohio International Consortium and has served on the governing boards of various academic and professional organizations in the United States and Latin America. At the University of Barcelona he was a UNESCO Professor of Communication and Culture.

The author of some 200 publications and papers including books, monographs, scholarly articles, policy papers, presentations and reports, he is currently writing a book on international understanding. This reading will be from his recently published book, “Origins and Destinations – A Bilingual Book of Poems.”  This collection of poems deals primarily with issues of identity and one’s origins, values, social justice, and meditations about life and relationships. Born in southern Europe, the author lived in Latin America before moving to the United States more than 30 years ago. He has traveled extensively and done work in dozens of countries, some of which he has visited multiple times. The Dr. Rota states: “Three nationalities and multiple cultures reside in me and give complexity to the question ‘who am I?’”
