Dr. Aimee Edmondson

Joint the Contemporary History Institute on Feb. 6 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Baker 231 for the first speaker of the Spring Semester,when Dr. Aimee Edmondson, Associate Professor of Journalism at Ohio University, speaks on “Libel Law as a Cudgel: Historical and Present day Threats to Press Freedom.”

Edmondson’s recent book, In Sullivan’s Shadow: The Use and Abuse of Libel Law during the Long Civil Rights Struggle, was published by the University of Massachusetts Press and is available on Amazon.

The event is free and open to the public.

Edmondson graduated with a B.A. in Journalism from Louisiana State University and completed a doctorate in Journalism from the University of Missouri. She worked as a reporter for 12 years for several newspapers and has received many awards for journalism. She also has published scholarship in numerous academic journals. Her research interests include libel laws, desegregation, state sunshine laws, and the Freedom of Information Act.
