‘Travel Ban’ Countries Film Series | The Devil Came on Horseback, Oct. 3

The Ohio University community is invited to a screening of The Devil Came on Horseback, as part of the 2017-18 “Travel Ban” Countries Film Series, at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, in Walter 145.

The event features introductory comments by Dr. Steve Howard, who will also moderate a brief Q&A after the screening. Directed by Ricki Stern & Anne Sundberg (2007), this film highlights the conditions in Darfur, Sudan and the forms of structural and other violence that underpin the relationship between the people of Darfur and the Sudanese government.

This screening represents the Somalia installment of the 2017-18 “Travel Ban” Countries Film Series. The event is organized by the Middle East and North Africa Studies and Islamic Studies certificate programs. It is co-sponsored with the departments of History, Classics & World Religions, and Political Science, the African Studies Program, the Center for Law, Justice, and Culture, the Contemporary History Institute, the War and Peace Theme, the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, and the Office of Global Affairs and International Studies at Ohio University.

Upcoming Screening Events

The schedule for the Fall 2017 half of the “Travel Ban” Countries Film Series follows. All screenings will take place at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov. 29 (Gover W135): A Separation
[On Iran: Feature, 85 minutes, Directed by Asghar Farhadi, 2011]

This film narrates the story of a couple as the negotiate their relationship, their everyday lives, and legal system of their society. The screening will be accompanied by commentary from Dr. Loren Lybarger, Associate Professor of Classics & World Religions.

Spring Installments

The film series will contrinue through the Spring 2018 term, featuring films from/on Libya, Syria, and Yemen.
