Ohio University alum Yvonne Maffei ’97, ’00M is The Kitchn cover story in an article headlined “This Wildly Popular Blogger Shows How Halal Food Is Adapting to America.”

Maffei, who lives in greater Chicago, is the author of the popular blog-turned cookbook, My Halal Hitchen. She earned degrees in Spanish and Global Studies-Latin American from the College of Arts & Sciences and a master’s in Development Studies from the Center for International Studies at Ohio University.

One of the marvels of the internet is the way it has given a voice to marginalized eaters and cooks who have found community in niches of Facebook and blogs. From health concerns (gluten-free, celiac, and diabetic) to passionate gadget-users (hi, Instant Pot fanatics!), cooks find their tribe online.
