Congratulations to all who presented at the Seventh Annual Barnstable Brown Obesity and Diabetes Research Day at the University of Kentucky on Thursday, May 18.

Molecular and Cellular Biology graduate student Quyen Luong was awarded second place in the graduate student poster contest. Luong worked under current Diabetes Institute investigator, Dr. Kevin Lee. Congratulations to both!

Numerous Diabetes Institute affiliated students and faculty also attended the symposium.

Associate Dean of Research and Innovation, Professor Sonia Najjar, Ph.D, delivered a noteworthy presentation titled “Impaired Insulin Clearance Links Insulin Resistance to Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis.”

Kathryn Corbin, who also works as a laboratory technician for DI investigator Dr. Craig Nunemaker, presented “Reducing glucokinase activity restores endogenous pulsatility and enhances insulin secretion in pancreatic islets from db/db mice.”
