The College of Arts & Sciences has a foreign language requirement for graduation, so transfer students should consider working on their foreign language courses as soon as possible.

Students in Bachelor of Arts programs are required to meet the 2120 level in a foreign language, and Bachelor of Science programs require the 1120 level in a foreign language.

Often, transfer students were not required to take a foreign language at their previous institution, so students may come in to Ohio University needing up to two years of a foreign language.

Don’t put this off until the last minute. If you have not already taken it, please complete a foreign language placement. This will let you know what level of a language to begin your requirement. Once placed, plan to take your foreign language as soon as possible so that there is plenty of time to complete it prior to graduation.

OHIO also is offering summer classes where you can complete two semesters of language in just one summer. Courses include the Spanish, French, Italian, Arabic and Swahali.

Foreign language courses can also be taken elsewhere. This does not make the course material any easier, but it may assist some students in completing their degree on time.
