One thing I have learned in the past weeks from our friends in the Academic Advancement Center was the Pomodoro Technique. “What’s that”, you ask? It’s a technique that helps you break up studying or work into smaller, more manageable sections. Because let’s be honest, our attention spans can be a little short these days with all of the modern distractions. How does it work? The Pomodoro Technique is basically breaking up your work or study time into 25 minute intervals followed by short breaks. Here are some tips to follow if you want to try this out on your own:

·         Set a timer for 25 minutes.

·         Work on your task until the timer goes off, avoiding ALL distractions.

·         When the timer goes off, put a check mark on a piece of paper. If you have fewer than four check marks, take a 3-5 minute break, then go back to step #2.

·         After four Pomodoro intervals, take a longer break of 15-30 minutes, reset your checkmark count to zero, then go back to step 1.

·         Check out this Life Hacker page for additional info and Pomodoro apps
