RWSA | Annual Business Meeting at Agricultural History Society, June 25

The Rural Women’s Studies Association is holding its annual breakfast business meeting at the upcoming Agricultural History Society conference in New York. The meeting is Saturday, June 25, 2016. Details will be available on the RWSA website.

Also regarding the AHS meeting, Grey Osterud notes that one of the sessions (although it may not be apparent from the program) pertains to women and gender: Thursday, June 22, 10:30 a.m. to noon, Panel C, titled Pre-Industrial Agrarian Households in Interaction with Urbanized Society. “The Relationship Between Country and Town During a Period of Financial Panic and Religious Apocalypse: Torstuna-Chicago and Back, 1820-1850,” by Maria Erikson (Uppsala University) and Iréne Flygare (Stiftelsen Upplandsmuseet) discusses a social movement against landlords and banks led by discontented women and youth in response to an economic and harvest crisis in Sweden, as well as the formation of a utopian community in the United States by emigrants from Torstuna.
