Intern Named ‘Page of Distinction’ at Ohio House of Representatives

Amanda McCoy ’16, who is interning at the Ohio House of Representatives, was selected as the Republican Jenell Sullivan Page of Distinction, Autumn 2015.

Her name will be engraved on the Jenell Sullivan Page of Distinction Award plaque in the House administrative office.

McCoy is commuting from Columbus to the Athens Campus to finish a bachelor’s degree in Sociology-Criminology.

Working within the House has allowed for me to have a hands on-experience with state-level government and has shaped my work ethic for a career in government,” says McCoy.

“Without my internship, I would not be where I am professionally. I give great thanks to all my mentors at the Ohio House of Representatives, you’ve established an incredible program for students like myself. I’ve learned and experienced so much in my time here and I cannot wait for what the future holds!”

She notes that “Ohio University has shaped me as an individual to maintain a strong work ethic and values. Without the knowledge I have gained from Ohio University, I would not have been so driven for the internship at the Ohio House of Representatives.”

About the Jenell Sullivan Page of Distinction: Sullivan’s remarkable career with the House began in 1985. She served for 25 years and spent much of her time working with pages. She had a special passion for the junior staff and provided unwavering guidance and support. She was humorous and ornery, loyal, persistent, dedicated, and always provided an example of high ethics and standards. Her commitment to developing pages was exemplary. She was a constant source of inspiration and strength to staff and members alike. Her devotion to the Ohio House and all it stands for is truly a legacy to commemorate. In her honor, recipients have shown similar characteristics to those of Sullivan. Each Jenell Sullivan Page of Distinction receives:

  • A golden tie that may be worn throughout his or her tenure as a House Page
  • A parking space
  • A plaque and photo
