Food for Thought | Weckman on ‘Fasts and Feasts,’ Oct. 22

The Food for Thought Speaker Series presents “Fasts and Feasts” with Dr. George Weckman on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 5:30 p.m. in the Friends of the Library Room, Alden Library.

The lecture is a review of what, when, and why religious traditions regulate meals, with a focus on Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam), with some reference to Hindu and Buddhist practice.

Food studies logoProfessor Emeritus Weckman taught courses on historic religions, texts and theory at Ohio University. He came to the Philosophy Department in 1968 and retired from the Classics & World Religions Department. He has been a church musician for 60 years. He is active in the Emeriti  Association.

This lecture is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Food Studies theme at Ohio University.
