“Do you have a strange looking rock or man-made object you would like to have identified? If so, join the Wayne National Forest, Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, and Ohio University’s departments of Anthropology and Geological Sciences at the 11th annual “Artifact Identification Day” on Saturday morning, Oct. 24, between 9 a.m. – noon,” reports the Jackson County Times Journal.
The public is invited to bring artifacts and fossils to the Forest Headquarters Welcome Center on U.S. Route 33, three miles south of Nelsonville, where a team of professional archaeologists and paleontologists will help identify the items. As always, the event is free to the public.
The 244,000 acre Wayne National Forest offers a variety of recreation opportunities, including camping, picnicking, fishing, hunting, nature viewing, canoeing, and much more.
