Science Café | Mathematician Todd Eisworth ‘To Infinity and Beyond!’ Sept. 9

Science Café  presents Dr. Todd Eisworth, Associate Professor and Chair of Mathematics, on “To Infinity and Beyond!” on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 5 p.m.,  in the Baker Center Front Room.

“I got hooked thinking about what infinity means when I was in college,” he says. “If you think of all the whole numbers that exist, 1-2-3-4, for example, and compare that group of numbers with a collection of just the even numbers, 2-4-6-8, you might ask if the first collection is really bigger than the second. Believe it or not, it’s helpful to use Sesame Street-style language when thinking about and discussing the arithmetic of infinite numbers. I’ll also want to share some insights about how kids learn about math.”
