How many of you have honestly utilized them this semester?

If you haven’t already, now’s the time! Why? Because, your professors are experts in their field and know a lot about the subjects you are studying. Also, many of you have already completed midterms and may be receiving grades back at this point.

Office hours are an excellent way to discuss your grade and how to perform better next time. If you received your exam back in paper copy, take it with you. Point out the areas that you are struggling in and ask questions, lots of questions. To maximize your time, be sure to think about what you want to ask ahead of time and prepare your questions in advance.

Office hours are also a great way to start building relationships with professors in your academic area, which may lead to closer mentorships, as well as recommendation letters when applying for scholarships, jobs and graduate school.

Office hours should always be listed on the top of a syllabus, but if they’re not, ask your professor to set up an appointment.
