Office of Sustainability Announces Fall Programs

Ohio University’s Office of Sustainability announces a variety of programs and events available for student, faculty, staff and alumni participation this fall.

Sustainability 170Sustainable Ohio University Leaders: SOUL is the implementation arm of the University’s Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan. Faculty, staff and students are invited to engage in weekly conversations about progress, potential opportunities and troubleshooting roadblocks. Meetings occur on Wednesdays from 3:30pm-5pm in Baker 239.

Sustainable Investing Advisory Committee: SIAC is a student organization offering hands-on experience with managing real financial portfolios for Ohio University. Students in SIAC work collaboratively with peers and University administrators to develop guidelines for financial portfolios that incorporate environmental, social, and governance evaluations. Recruitment Night: Students are invited to learn more about SIAC, SOUL and other sustainability efforts at Ohio University at an informational session on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. in Baker 231. Free pizza!

Campus Farmers’ Markets: The on-campus fall markets (sponsored by the Campus Involvement Center) kicks off on Friday, Sept. 12, at Howard Park. The Office of Sustainability will be present with free reusable lunch totes so people can easily pack sustainable lunches all year. Stop by early to guarantee a tote (one per person, while supplies last) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Homecoming Parade: The Office of Sustainability will feature a person-powered display at the 2014 Homecoming Parade. To participate, email sustainability@ohio.edu.

Campus Sustainability Day: Follow the Office of Sustainability on Twitter (@SustainableOU) to engage in a live-tweeting event on Campus Sustainability Day, Oct. 22, working with Facilities and other campus administrators to identify sustainability-related opportunities on campus and troubleshoot solutions. A reception follows at Baker 1804 Lounge where students can learn about the energy consumption of the Baker Escalators. Stop by for free refreshments or to engage in the Costume Swap.

Costume Swap: Don’t break the bank this Halloween! Stop by the 1804 Lounge (1st Floor Baker) with an unwanted costume to donate and select a “new” costume to wear this year, at no cost, on Oct. 22 from noon to 2 p.m., in the 1804 Lounge.
