Hendricks is Associate Professor of Geology at of San Jose State University.

Abstract: Cone snails are venomous predators, remarkably diverse, and one of the most intensively researched groups of marine invertebrates. Further, collectors have coveted their beautiful shells for centuries. Beyond taxonomic descriptions, however, their rich fossil record remains little explored. A project is under way to investigate the systematics and paleobiology of cone snails in the Neogene of the Dominican Republic. Hendricks will provide an overview of this project and the insights that it has offered thus far about the evolutionary history of this remarkable clade in tropical America.
