Intelligencer: Chemistry Alum Named VP for Academic Affairs at Bethany College

Ohio University alum Dr. David W. Ewing ’85PhD has been named the new vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty at Bethany College, reports the Wheeling, WV, Intelligencer.

Ewing earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the College of Arts & Sciences in 1985.

Ewing will begin serving the college on July 1 and will live in historic Highland Hearth, the dean’s residence, on campus.

“In addition to his strong background as a dean at two institutions, Dr. Ewing is a noted scholar in his discipline,” (President Scott) Miller said. “I am confident that Dr. Ewing’s experience as a dean, department chair, faculty member and scholar is a good fit in an exciting era for Bethany College. I look forward to working with him and welcome him to the Bethany family.”

For the past four years, Ewing has served at Canisus College in New York as the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He is also a former dean of the College of Natural and Social Sciences at State University of New York, Fredonia.

He has held additional academic appointments in chemistry at John Carroll University and Ohio State University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and general science from Hiram College and a doctorate in physical chemistry from Ohio University.

Ewing will be the college’s chief academic officer and is responsible for establishing academic priorities and overseeing 11 academic departments, libraries, the McCann Learning Center, the Office of International Studies and the registrar’s office.
