History Pre-Law Alum Says Teaching Is ‘Her Passion’

Today’s Pulse features an interview with Ohio University alum Tracey Parks ’91, who majored in History Pre-Law in the College of Arts & Sciences.

Parks is a seventh-grade world studies teacher at Hopewell Junior School in Lakota (OH) Local School District.

Parks is in her 21st year in education, and every year has been spent teaching seventh-grade social studies at Hopewell Jr. High.

Q: What is your educational background?

A: I have a master’s degree from Walden University with a focus on technology integration. My undergraduate degree is from Ohio University. I proudly earned National Board Certification of Professional Teachers in 2003.

Q: Why did you become a teacher?

A: As a student in the Lakota system, I had outstanding teachers who inspired me. Barb Nadler, June Hendel, Shirley Sininger, Mike Taylor and Linda Noble were all excellent role models. Although I didn’t start as an education major in college, I was drawn to education roles in my sorority, clubs and summer jobs. Eventually, I realized that teaching was my passion.
