New Food Matters Student Club First Meeting, March 18

The Food Matters Club is a new student organization starting this semester that is focused on creating an interdisciplinary community based around all things food.

The first meeting is Tuesday, March 18, at 6:30 p.m. at Jackie O’S Public House in Athens.

Food studies“Come out for dinner or just to chat about the club and exchange ideas. You don’t have to stay for the whole time, come for as long as you like to meet people and get information,” says Anna Chleboun.

The club is affiliated with the Food Studies curricular theme, which offers an opportunity for students to integrate their general requirements with an interest in food and food systems. The club fosters discussions and events related to fields and topics related to food systems. Any and all students are welcome to participate.

The primary goal of the club is to bring students together to increase awareness about how central food is to academic study, no matter what major they have chosen. This awareness incorporates involvement in the Athens community to see how food issues are being addressed in the surrounding area. Food Matters also works with the Food Studies program to facilitate speaker events and workshops throughout the school year.
