The ABC 4 story on illegal immigration explores whether it is a benefit or burden in Utah.

“A recent study says Utah spends 53 million dollars per year on criminal justice activities for illegal immigrants. A 2012 Study by Professor Charlie Morgan of Ohio University says anywhere from 6 to 9 percent of Utah Inmates are illegal immigrants. And Herrod says that is one of the lower priced expenditures. He says education is the biggest hit when it comes to illegal immigrants in Utah “There was an audit done in 2009 that showed the cost was between $58 million and $80 million dollars. You run the numbers today and it is close to $100 million.” And according to a 2010 Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) report – illegal immigration issues cost Utah $453 million per year.”
